Interview with virtual influencer Mia

BY LAUNCHING HER FIRST CAPSULE COLLECTION WITH SURF STYLE, MIA IS BREAKING OUT OF HER DIGITAL FRAME AND CREATING A SOMEWHAT PHYGITAL MOMENT.

WHAT IS THE INTERNET ANGEL COLLECTION?

The virtual influencer Mia, who is living the sweet life in Miami, has launched her first capsule collection in collaboration with beachwear brand Surf Style. Named the Internet Angel collection, Mia pays homage to today’s internet culture and Surf Style’s classic 90s style. The designs feature nostalgic neon colours, shiny fabric, and a QR code that you scan to unlock your own Mia surprise.

WHO IS MIA?

As a 20-year-old virtual influencer, Mia isn’t living in the physical world as we do. Her life unfolds only on Instagram as she navigates Miami’s social scene with club nights at Sushi Fly Chicken and front-row seats at basketball games. She loves sharing her latest fashion obsessions, travel destinations, and the music she’s been working on with fans.

TRASHYMUSE caught up with Mia for a quick interview to talk about the new capsule collection with Surf Style, her thoughts on the Metaverse, and what else she’s up to these days.

Hey Mia, so tell us how this collaboration came about. Why team up with Surf Style?

Mia: I’m a huge fan of brands from the nostalgic 90s era, and my friends at Surf Style reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in a collaboration. Their style fits my aesthetic so well, and it was great timing to create a Y2K-themed capsule collection just in time for swim week here in Miami. 🏄♀️

What’s the inspiration behind the Internet Angel collection?

Mia: The inspiration is my love for internet culture and early 2000s aesthetic. That era was such an amazing time for design because so many graphic designers were starting out. They were learning how to use the computer and experimenting with design in terms of colours, fonts, and style.

How did you put your own personal touch on the collection?

Mia: It was definitely my tagline, “Internet Angel.” I was born through the love of internet culture, so combining that into physical products only made sense.

What’s your favourite piece?

Mia: The T-shirt. I’m a street style girl at heart, so a well-designed graphic tee is essential to my wardrobe. And I think I killed it with the surfboard graphic. 😊

Name three words that describe your style…

Mia: Fine — Art — Streetwear 💗

What is fashion to you?

Mia: I actually dislike the word ‘fashion’ because to me it describes an industry of products. I prefer style, looking at how you can mix and match luxury with streetwear. For instance, I love wearing Nike sneakers with my vintage Mugler dress.

Any cool fashion spots in Miami we should know about?

Mia: One of my favourite shopping spots is UNKNWN in Miami. They carry streetwear and sneakers. I also love Patron of the New and The Webster. Oh, and shout out to my friend Tito at Chrome Hearts!

As a virtual influencer, what is your take on digital fashion and the Metaverse?

Mia: Digital fashion is so important for the environment! Not only does it save material and sampling time, I believe that it will change the way product photography and editorials are created in the future. The Metaverse is a more tricky subject because the term hasn’t been fully digested by everyone yet. I believe we were all meta as soon as social media began. The internet personalities that we create aren’t our true selves, so in reality, what’s the difference between your internet persona and mine? 💁♀️

If you were to release another fashion collection, what should we expect?

Mia: I have some really exciting collaborations in the works that I can’t disclose quite yet. But what I can say is that my brand Eternal is in production and on the way very soon!

Thank you, Mia! ✨
